Payneville FC of Montserrado are champions of Bassa 2022 after a 4-2 penalty shootout win over Sub-association rivals Samira that follows a 2-2 draw in regulation at the Doris Williams Stadium in Buchanan.

The club star player Dahn Weah scooped the awards for Most Valuable Player and top goalscorer after finishing the tournament with 7 goals.

Paynesville FC also won a prize of LRD250,000.00 and losers Samira was rewarded with a symbolic cheque of LRD120,000.00 after finishing as runners-up in the end-of-season event.

In a derby in which the two teams know each other very well, Dahn Weah poked Paynesville In front after 36 minutes with a composed finish to lead 1-0 at the break.

Samira would levelled through Augustine Sawah, whose in+the-box shot took a wicked deflection.

As the contest looks to be poised for a predictable penalty shootout, Dennis Shabba blasted a left-footed shot in the roof of Paynesville with 5 minutes to go handling the Sinkor based club, Samira a 2-1 advantage.

That fragile lead didn’t last long as Paynesville pressure paid off with a penalty in the 90th minute and Levi Gardea drilled it home unstoppably behind Hamprey Grugbaye.

Paynesville won 4-2 on penalties after starlet Abel Kamara and goalkeeper Grugbaye had their 12 yard efforts saved by Abu Sheriff.

The two clubs nonetheless won automatic promotion to 2nd Division despite the result. They are joined by Angels of Bomi who strolled pass Rivercess FC 4-1 in the winners’ category 3rd placed match.

Earlier on Friday, Tewor of Cape Mount and NPA Anchors II of Sinoe insured their berth to qualification to the 2nd Division after semi final wins over Mighty Enforcers and NPA Anchors IV respectively.
